We introduce to you our new interim
minister, the Rev. James E. Hicks, former senior pastor (now retired) of the
United Presbyterian Church in Cortland.
Jim was the 2007 moderator of the Presbytery of Susquehanna Valley and
2008 co-chair of Committee on Ministry (in the UPUSA). He was raised in
Cleveland, Ohio, and was graduated from Case Western Reserve University with a
BA in Political Science in 1963; he received his MDiv from Princeton
Theological Seminary in 1966. He has
pursued graduate study in behavioral psychology and his continuing education
has included courses at Union Theological (NYC), Princeton, and McCormick
Seminaries. In his recent spare time, he has served as temporary pastor of the
First United Presbyterian Church of Oneonta, the First Presbyterian Church of
Marathon, West Presbyterian Church of Binghamton, the United Church of Christ
in McClean (substitute part-time), and preached occasionally at other churches
in the wider Cortland area. He and his
wife, Mary, have three adult children and seven grandchildren. Though presently
active in the UPCUSA, he has now been granted dual standing in the UCC. He is
residing at his 12- acre farmette in Groton, NY, and looking forward to serving
the people of the Preble Congregational Church.
